Bertso Passion

During this year's Passion for Knowledge festival, we will once again be mixing science and the art of Basque extempore verse making (known as bertsolaritza in the Basque language) in the Vitoria Eugenia Theatre. Four scientists, the minds behind some of the most important scientific discoveries of recent years, will go up on stage beside four highly-talented Basque extempore verse singers, known locally as bertsolaris.

Bertso Passion combines scientists' unique outlook with the beauty and ingenuity of the bertsolaris' sung improvised poetry, taking the audience on a journey full of sense and sensibility and transporting them back to the origin of our species, the evolution of plants and the essence of chemistry.

The session will be held in the evening on Wednesday 2 October, at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre.

Entry to all public sessions, including Bertso Passion, will be free access and free of charge until the venue is full, although prior registration is recommended.

The session will be streamed live and an interpreting service will be provided to enable viewers to follow in Basque, Spanish and English.
